Bellefontaine woman killed in Logan Co. crash

State troopers said a 78-year-old Bellefontaine woman was killed in a three-vehicle crash in Logan County Sunday afternoon.

In a release, state troopers said they were dispatched to the intersection of U.S. 33 and County Road 37 in McArthur Township around 4:10 p.m. Sunday on a reported three-vehicle crash with injuries.

Troopers said an initial investigation found a 1999 Ford F250 pickup truck was traveling southwest on County Road 37 when it failed to yield at a stop sign and was hit by a 2013 Buick Regal. The force of the crash sent the Buick Regal into a 2015 Honda Pilot that was stopped at the stop sign.

The passenger in the Ford F250, identified as 78-year-old Twila Howell, of Bellefontaine was ejected from the vehicle and transported to Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine. Troopers said Howell would later succumb to her injuries at the hospital.

Troopers said Howell was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The occupants of the other vehicles all sustained non-life threatening injuries and were transported to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment.

It’s unknown if the driver of the F250, identified as 74-year-old David Downing, will face any charges or citations as a result of the crash.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash and the incident remains under investigation by the Marysville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
