A juvenile male was arrested shortly after shots were reported fired in a vacant lot in the 400 block of Euclid Avenue late Tuesday afternoon.
The boy, whose age was not immediately known, claimed another male fired shots at him, so he fired back, though police were not able to verify that claim, Springfield police Sgt. Jeff Williams said.
Police did not locate a gun and a second suspect.
No one was injured and no homes near the scene were believed to have been hit by gunfire.
Vickie Combs, who lives in a home next to the lot, said she heard about six shots then saw two males flee. There have been no similar incidents near there since she moved in seven months ago, she said.
“I hope they get (the suspects) because we have a lot of young kids running around here,” she said.
The suspect was located in an alley near where the shots were fired.
He will likely be charged with delinquency by reason of firing a weapon within the city limits, Williams said. More charges may be added pending investigation.
