A photography exhibit by Angie Ferrell is on display at the Vandalia Municipal Building Gallery through April 28. The exhibit is named “Taking a Closer Look.” It is open weekdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Vandalia Arbor Day Celebration will be held April 28 at 1 p.m. at Helke Park.

Center hosts art exhibit

A Creative Impressions Art Exhibit will be on display at the Huber Heights Senior Center, 6428 Chambersburg Road, on April 30 from 1-3 p.m.

PIQUA

City manager to stay

City Manager Gary Huff has withdrawn acceptance of a new job in Ashland, Ky., in favor of remaining with the city of Piqua. Huff last month said he would be leaving the Miami County city for a job in Ashland, which is near his hometown in West Virginia.

School connected to nature

Piqua’s Springcreek Elementary School was recognized April 10 as the first “A Best in Ohio–Connect to Nature School” in the country. To receive the designation, a school must achieve a set of criteria set by the Leave No Child Inside Miami Valley Collaborative and Dayton Regional Green. An award banner will be displayed outside the school.

TROY

New refuse cart use begins May 1

Although Troy city crews are delivering new 65-gallon refuse carts to residences as part of the automating of garbage collection, residents are not to use the carts until May 1. Anyone with questions is asked to contact Jerry Mullins at 937-335-1914, extension 1225, weekdays between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Candidate night scheduled

A Meet the Candidate Night for the May 2 election will be held at the Troy Junior High School cafeteria April 20 at 7:30 p.m. The forum will feature candidates for Troy City Council at large and 5th Ward seats and the Troy income tax proposal for parks and recreation.

Gem, Mineral Show coming

The 34th Brukner Gem, Mineral, Fossil and Jewelry Show will be held at the Miami County Fairgrounds’ Duke Lundgard Building on April 22 and 23. Hours will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 22 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m April 23. Admission is $2 for adults and children, free. For more information, call 937-308-3012.

TIPP CITY

City plans Arbor Day event

The Tipp City Tree Advisory Board will hold an Arbor Day celebration April 28 at 10 a.m. at Kyle Park, 500 S. First St., Tipp City.

Pollinators focus of class

A class on the Power of Pollinators-Gardening is for the Bees will be offered April 27 from 6-7 p.m. by Tipp Monroe Community Services in Tipp City. Topics will include what plants work well in garden situations and what pollinators they will bring to the garden. The class is free but registration is required.
