Brookville student uses board games to help senior citizens

Brookville High school senior Lauren Hinkle completed a senior capstone project designed to encourage senior citizens to engage and socialize through board games. Students were asked to create and tailor games towards an older audience.

Every aspect of the design process was explored during the project. Lauren and her group of peers developed a game similar to Clue called Blast through the Past. The game sends players back throughout the decades with the mission of figuring out a mystery person.

Students invited residents of Brookhaven, our local retirement community, to provide feedback on the team’s prototype. Lauren’s favorite part of the project was interacting with the Brookhaven residents.

She found the experience to be rewarding for both herself as well as the residents. Lauren is a student in the high school’s IMPACT class. The course is designed to engage students in projects to solve real-world problems.
