The grant for Friends of MetroParks of Butler County will fund improvements that include: fencing, gates, storm drainage pipes, head wall, catch basin and engineering to help improve user experience and decrease weather-related closures due to water.
Erin Clemons, the foundation’s president and CEO, said part of the organization’s philanthropic mission is to make an impact in the community through the distribution of grant funds to organizations serving West Chester and Liberty townships. The second part of that philanthropic mission is to assist donors who wish to make an impact of their own, Clemons said.
The $40,000 Christine Humphreys Impact Grant given by the Foundation to Friends of MetroParks is due to the legacy left by Humphreys, who in 2016 approached the foundation to assist her in creating a charitable legacy that would benefit the community after she died.

In late 2017, following Humphreys’ battle with cancer, the Christine Humphreys Fund was established at the Community Foundation at her bequest.
“Her endowed legacy gift allows for a $40,000 grant to be made annually, in perpetuity, to support those causes she cared about in the West Chester/Liberty community — parks, pets, and quality of life initiatives,” Clemons said. “Over time, that $40,000 annual grant will grow to make an even greater impact. Her legacy will live on in the organizations and programs supported by the Christine Humphreys Fund for generations to come, and the Community Foundation is honored and grateful to have been entrusted to carry out that legacy.”
