Crash sends car into side of Centerville building

UPDATE @ 9:40 p.m.

The driver who crashed into the side of a building Tuesday afternoon in downtown Centerville was cited for failure to yield.

John Davis, public information officer for the Centerville Police Department, said the driver, a 21-year-old woman, turned in front of another car driven by a 17-year-old girl at the intersection of East Franklin and South Main streets. The impact forced the 21-year-old’s car into the building.

There were no injuries, and no structural damage to the building in the crash reported shortly before 1 p.m., Davis said.

Police and fire crews were dispatched to the intersection of East Franklin and South Main streets around 12:50 p.m. after the crash was reported.

The building is being evacuated as a precaution, according to initial reports.

There have been no reports of serious injuries in the crash.
