CareSource has about 2 million members in five states. Most of its business comes from managing private Medicaid plans, but the insurer also sells private Medicare plans and individual plans sold on the Affordable Care Act exchanges.
“Health care is only one component in the complex lives of our consumers and community,” stated Cathy Ponitz,Vice President, CareSource Foundation. “The CareSource Foundation enables us to transcend standard health care and reach into our local communities to better understand and solve social issues.”
The foundation gave $5,000 grants to 31 nonprofits. Some of those nonprofits include the Miami County Recovery Center,which will use the grant for operational support at the opiate addiction treatment center, and Fisher-Nightingale Houses, which will use the grant to provide housing at no cost for families of veterans getting care at VA hospitals.
Other groups that received donations in the region include Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Greater Cincinnati, CA Group, Clark County Literacy Coalition, Echoing Hills Village, Inc., Family Violence Prevention Center, Giving Life A Dream House (G.L.A.D.), Health Partners Free Clinic, Miami County Recovery Council, National Alliance of Mental Illness of Southwest Ohio, Pro Bono Partnership of Ohio, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Dayton and Springfield Christian Youth Ministries.
