Cedarville University creates new school of allied health, names dean

Cedarville University announced a new school of allied of health as well as its inaugural dean.

Evan Hellwig, currently the chair of the department of kinesiology and allied health, will be the dean of the newly formed school effective July 1.

The school will include the Master of Athletic Training program and the physician assistant program.

Cedarville University recently learned of the Master of Athletic Training program’s approval from the Higher Learning Commission’s Institutional Action Council. Approval from the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education is pending.

The Master of Athletic Training program is scheduled to begin by 2022 and the physician assistant program has a targeted start date of 2023, pending external approvals.

“We put athletic training curriculum in the catalog in 1994; the first graduating class was in 1996, and we were accredited in 2005,” Hellwig said. “Where we are today is beyond my wildest dreams.”
