Community event to shut down Kettering Road

Evening commutes next week in Kettering could be impacted by a half-mile stretch of road in Kettering shutting down for several hours for a crime prevention event.

Kettering Police Department’s National Night Out is scheduled for Aug. 1 at the Town & Country Shopping Center on Stroop Road from 6 to 8 p.m. The half-mile stretch of road, between Far Hills Avenue and Shroyer Road, will be shut down, in both directions, from 5 to 9 p.m.

The event will include meet and greets with Kettering officers, including K-9’s, crime prevention information and family-friendly activities.

Held annually on the first Tuesday in August, National Night Out is an effort to unite law enforcement and community members against crime and drugs. The event, sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, is expected to have more than 37 million participants nationwide. More than 15,000 communities across the country will be involved to support anti-crime efforts.
