On May 26, Dayton police responding to an unrelated call saw Christopher Lee Campbell crash into the Dayton Boys Prep Academy playground near West Second and Clemmer streets.
Officers pulled up to the vehicle and began to assist Campbell, according to cruiser camera footage recently released.
Police found Campbell shot in the back and had him transported to Miami Valley.
The 42-year-old died from injuries at the hospital.
Carson D. Barker, 33, was charged with murder, felonious assault, tampering with evidence, having weapons under disability and discharge of a firearm near a prohibited premise, according to Dayton Municipal Court records.
He was arrested on Memorial Day and his case has been referred to a Montgomery County grand jury.
An initial investigation showed that the shooting was not a random incident and that it was the result of a “long-running dispute” between Barker and Campbell, said Lt. Jason Hall.
