Daybreak students open concert at Levitt Pavilion with original song

After their concert Friday night, Kyle Dillingham & Horseshow Road collaborated with Daybreak students on an original song about unity.

They will perform and open for Saturday night’s band, Sol Driven Train, around 7:00 p.m., and the concert is free.

Together with six Daybreak students, they created a song based on “umoja,” which is the first principle of Kwanzaa and means to strive and maintain unity in the family, community, nation, and race, according to a release.

The five minute song is a fusion of rap, folk, and pop with each student bringing a bit of their own story and heart.

This collaboration was created out of one of Levitt’s missions to create educational and community building opportunities among all people, the release stated.

The team at Daybreak worked closely with the Levitt Pavilion Dayton team to organize this collaboration in the Daybreak café that has instruments and recording equipment to offer a space for their students to express themselves and grow in their creativity.
