Troopers ID woman killed in two-vehicle crash outside Middletown

UPDATE @ 10 p.m.

The woman killed in a crash this afternoon was identified as 67-year-old Betty Sandlin of Middletown by the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Lebanon Post.

Sandlin was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash that happened shortly before 4:30 p.m. on Dixie Highway near the Stonyrill Lane intersection in Franklin Twp., near Middletown in Warren County.

Preliminary investigation shows that Emily Bell, 34, and her passenger David Flinchum, 27, of Miamisburg, were headed north on Dixie Highway in a blue 2008 Honda Odyssey. Bell’s minivan went left of center and struck Sandlin’s red 2011 Kia Forte that was headed south, troopers said.

Bell and Flinchum were taken to Atrium Medical Center in Middletown with serious injuries. They were not wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, the patrol reported.

The crash remains under investigation.

A woman was killed and two others injured in a two-vehicle crash this afternoon on South Dixie Highway just outside Middletown.

The woman, who was not identified pending notification of family, was the driver of a Kia Forte headed south. Her car was struck nearly head-on shortly before 4:30 p.m. by a northbound Honda minivan occupied by a male and female, according to preliminary investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Lebanon Post.

The Honda occupants were taken to Atrium Medical Center in Middletown. The Kia driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sgt. Jacques Illanz said he’s handled a number of crashes on South Dixie Highway — which has a 50 mph speed limit at the crash site at the intersection with Stonyrill Lane — between Manchester and Coles roads during his 12 years with the patrol.

FIRST REPORT

One person was killed this afternoon in a two-vehicle crash just outside Middletown.

The crash between a Honda minivan and Kia Forte happened at the intersection of South Dixie Highway and Stonyrill Lane in Franklin Twp., about 100 feet from the border with the city of Middletown.

The Warren County Coroner’s Office responded to recover the body of the victim who was pronounced dead at the scene.

South Dixie Highway is blocked just north of Coles Road to Manchester Road, which is north of the crash site.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol's Lebanon Post is investigating the crash.
