Distracted semi driver blamed for I-75 crash in Miami Co.

UPDATE @ 1:30 a.m.

State troopers said a distracted semi driver caused a crash that has partially blocked northbound Interstate 75 in Miami County for hours.

Investigators said one semi was stopped on the highway due to construction north of the exit to Ohio 41 in Troy. The second semi driver, who state troopers said was distracted, saw the stopped semi at the last moment and attempted to avoid contact.

The vehicles collided, causing contents of both semis to spill onto the highway.

No injuries were reported in the crash, and investigators believe the distracted driver was the only cause of the crash.

State troopers originally blocked both lanes of northbound Interstate 75 at Ohio 41, but traffic is still slowly getting by in the shoulder. All lanes were reopened around 1:30 a.m.

This was the second major crash along the same stretch of Interstate 75 Tuesday, where slow construction traffic was a partial contributing factor. 20-year-old Brandon Bark of Troy was killed when he crashed into the back of a semi that had slowed down on I-75 north of Ohio 41 due to the roadwork.

No hazardous contents were in either of the semitrailers, according to dispatchers.

A vehicle crash on I-75 North in Troy involving at least one and perhaps two semitrailers is blocking two lanes of traffic.

The crash, believed to be in an area of the interstate between state Route 41 (West Main Street) and North County Road 25A, was dispatched just after 10:30 p.m.

We’re hearing there is heavy damage to one of the trailers and it appears everyone is out of the vehicles involved.

We’ll update this developing report as we get information.

Traffic is being re-routed onto the shoulder of the roadway.
