A semitrailer driver was okay after his rig went up in flames on Interstate 75, causing a major backup Sunday afternoon.
At around 1:30 p.m., police and fire crews were called to I-75 northbound, near state route 4 on reports of a vehicle fire.
A Volcano Transport Inc. truck was headed to Michigan from Georgia when it caught fire.
The driver said he heard the engine making a noise and noticed smoke coming from under the hood. When he pulled over on the interstate, he saw fire coming from the driver's side.
Dayton Fire Department crews were able to control the blaze but the effort blocked two lanes of I-75 traffic.
At 3:30 p.m., the truck was ready to be towed away from the scene.
The driver was unharmed in the fire.
