UPDATE @ 7:31 p.m.:

The motorcyclist who died in the traffic accident on I-70 East at Arlington Road was ejected into the right lane after striking the back of a semitrailer, said Sgt. Frank Simmons, Dayton Post, Ohio State

Highway Patrol.

The man, believed to be in his 50s, was wearing a helmet.

“As the truck was merging or already established in the right lane, the motorcyclist struck the back end and was ejected into the right lane,” Simmons said.

“Witnesses did not see any evasive maneuvering from the motorcyclist.”

A woman who identified herself as the motorcyclist’s girlfriend said the man had medical issues and had not taken his medication in a few days.

She was following him in a car and witnessed the accident. She and the motorcyclist were in the process of moving to Clayton from Arizona.

Simmons is urging motorcyclists and other drivers to always take precautions while traveling, especially during the summer months.

“When it’s nice and sunny out, that’s when most of our accidents happen. Give yourself an outlet and plenty of time to get where you’re going. Be a defensive driver.”

The crash was reported shortly after 4 p.m. and forced the closure of all the lanes for several minutes. The accident scene was cleared just after 7 p.m.

The accident remains under investigation, Simmons said.
