Empty hay trailer fells Greene County power pole

A section of South New Jasper Station Road was shut down for more than four hours Tuesday evening when an empty hay trailer slammed into a power pole, bringing it and wires down onto the roadway in the Greene County township of New Jasper.

Trooper Paige Miranda, Xenia Post Ohio Highway Patrol, said a 42-year-old farmer from the New Jasper Twp. area was headed to a farm on Long Road to bale hay when the second of his two trailers got loose in the 300 block of South New Jasper Station Road about 7:30 p.m.

The farmer hadn’t realized what happened and continued in his pickup truck and the remaining trailer to the Long Road property without stopping, Miranda said, noting that the farmer wasn’t injured.

He was cited for having an unsecured load, the trooper said.

A Dayton Power & Light crew was called to replace the pole and restring the wires, she said. Greene County sheriff’s deputies were helping with the blocked road, which was still closed to South Ballard Road at 11:30 p.m.
