Natural gas leak contained after work crew strikes line in Washington Twp.

Vectren crews have contained a natural gas leak near the intersection of Washington Church Road and Spring Valley Pike in Washington Twp.

A contractor working in the area struck and ruptured the line around 1:30 p.m. Thursday according to a Washington Twp. Fire official.

Emergency crews evacuated between 20 and 30 people who live near the leak. Officials said they were allowed to return to their homes after the leak was contained. 

Dayton Christian Schools, located near the leak, was not evacuated because of the incident. 

“We were told the safest thing would be to keep everyone on site instead of moving them to a new area,” Julie Thompson, spokesperson for Dayton Christian Schools said. 

No injuries were reported.

Multiple crews have responded to reports of a natural gas leak in Washington Twp. Thursday afternoon. 

The leak was reported at the intersection of Washington Church Road and Spring Valley Pike around 1:30 p.m. after a gas line was struck, according to initial reports.

Scanner traffic from the scene indicates some surrounding homes have been evacuated. 

The leak is near Dayton Christian Schools, however, the school has not been evacuated, according to a school representative. 

Crews have blocked the intersection while Vectren workers assess the incident, per initial reports. 

There have been no reports of injuries.
