Family of newest ‘Idol’ filled with joy

Lee DeWyze was one of the final two for the season that ended Wednesday.

LIBERTY TWP. — Liberty Twp. resident Mary Kleiman can’t stop replaying the last few minutes of the Wednesday, May 26, “American Idol” results show over and over again in her mind.

At a results party Wednesday at the Wetherington Golf and Country Club in West Chester Twp., she was able to celebrate with approximately 250 fellow supporters upon hearing that her nephew, Lee DeWyze, was crowned “American Idol” of the show’s 9th season.

DeWyze resides in Mt. Prospect, Ill. His dad is Lee DeWyze Sr., Mary’s brother.

Kleiman was able to speak to Lee Sr. for a few moments after the show during an emotional conversation.

“He just told me to stop crying. It’s supposed to be a celebration,” she said.

Kleiman said she never assumed her nephew would win, even though she knew he was good enough.

She was able to see just how talented her nephew was when she attended the live broadcasts May 4-5 in Hollywood, which she said was a “once in a lifetime experience.” She plans on seeing Lee in concert again when the “American Idol” tour stops at Riverbend Music Center September 3.

“I’m just overwhelmed with happiness,” she said. “I’m full of happiness and pride. Words can’t even explain.”
