Xenia school board appoints late member’s daughter to fill seat

Xenia school board members voted this afternoon to appoint Tamara Spahr Bartley to fill her father’s role on the board. William Spahr died Dec. 6, and the school board had 30 days to appoint someone to fill the seat.

Bartley was selected among four finalists who submitted letters of interest and were interviewed by the school board earlier this week.

The Xenia school board is expected to appoint a new board member today to fill the vacancy left by the late Bill Spahr.

Board members are scheduled to meet at 3 p.m. to vote on their selection.

The four finalists for the position are James V. Slusher Jr., Tamara Bartley, Roy Hatfield and Thomas McCarthy, according to District Treasurer Eric Soltis.

Board members conducted interviews with the candidates during closed sessions earlier this week.
A seat on the board became open after the Dec. 6 death of Bill Spahr, who had been a member of the board for 27 years.

Spahr’s unexpired term ends next year. School board members are eligible to receive the district’s healthcare benefits and receive $125 as compensation for each meeting they attend. Compensation is also set aside for training sessions.
