Barnett said that fire crews responded to a report of a house fire at around 1:34 a.m., and on arrival found that a father and son who were the occupants of the house had already escaped.

The fire was in the rear of the house, appearing to start on the back porch before spreading to the house and working its way into the attic.
Barnett said that the father and son were awoken by the smell of smoke, but he stressed the importance of working smoke detectors.
“The importance of having a working smoke detector in this case is a good story, because without that, there could potentially be some injuries,” he said.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
