Schedule change: Fireworks, parade this weekend in Trotwood

Trotwood’s Family Reunion Weekend takes place this weekend with family-oriented activities and food available for attendees.

Events initially planned for Friday have been moved.

Saturday will begin with a parade that starts at 10 a.m. with staging at The Foodtown Shopping Center on Main Street. The parade route will travel west on Main Street to Broadway Boulevard and south on Broadway Boulevard to Madison Park.

The parade will feature Trotwood Mayor Mary McDonald as the grand marshal as well as fire and rescue vehicles, police cruisers, public works vehicles and equipment, local celebrities, elected officials, decorated vehicles, bicycles, classic cars and music.

After the parade, organizers have planned the 9th Annual Trotwood-Wolfcreek 'Smoke, Sizzle and Sounds BBQ' Contest from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. with cash prizes for chicken and pork ribs.

The barbecue contest will take place at Madison Park. The winners of the contest will receive prizes of $175 to $500.

The day-long event will include live music, vendors, food, GameTruck, Games/Prizes, Facepainting, inflatables and the Boonshoft Animals Alive exhibit at this event plus live entertainment from Kickin Flava Band, The 937 Band, Gem City Platinum Band, Faith Chambers, i-WitnessLife.

Saturday evening the city of Trotwood will display fireworks at the Trotwood Community and Cultural Arts center located on Lake Center Drive. This event includes music and food trucks at 7:00pm.

Central State University Extension will also be giving away glow sticks before the fireworks. Fireworks will begin at 8 p.m.

These fireworks were originally supposed to be on the Fourth of July byt city leaders delayed them due to being so close to the Memorial Day tornadoes.

Sunday will include an interfaith music event from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. This event will wrap up the weekend with community churches participating in the music event.

Musical talents include Rufus Troutman, Craig Wallace aka Christjr, Omega Baptist Choir, Trinity Burton, Vision Mime Team, Melody Baccus, Angels of Praise, Intima Flag Team.
