Franklin trash, recycling collection rates going up Oct. 1

Franklin residents will see their trash, yard waste and recycling collection rates go up starting Oct. 1.

The increase is a result of the second one-year renewal to the original three-year contract approved in 2014. The three one-year renewals were part of the original contract, city officials said.

Residents will see a 46-cent increase to $16.70 from the current rate of $16.24 a month for the trash service, which includes the city’s $2.71 monthly administrative fee, said Steve Inman, public works director.

Since 2008, the city has incrementally increased the trash collection fee. Inman said the only time it was not increased was in 2014 when the city negotiated a lower rate with Rumpke.

Franklin City Council approved the increase at its Aug. 6 meeting.

Inman said there is another one-year renewal before the city and Rumpke negotiate a new contract.

He said no other fees have increased for toters, car and truck tires, and excess trash collection. Inman also said the city administrative fee will remain the same. The last time the city increased the administrative fee was in 2009 when it was increased 10 cents to raise additional revenues for demolition projects.
