Cycling event at Shawnee Park on Sunday

Tour de Xenia, a state-sanctioned cycling event, will be held Sunday around Shawnee Park. The event, which closes out National Bicycling Month, is being sponsored by Greene Memorial Hospital and Team Dayton Cycling, in partnership with the City of Xenia and Wheat Penny Oven & Bar.

Tour de Xenia will be the USA Cycling Ohio State Masters and Juniors Criterium Championships, and will also be a part of the Ohio Criterium Cup and the premiere Woman’s Racing Cup Series. The race is open to all ages, and will offer more than $5,000 in prize money, prime lap prizes and merchandise.

The race is expected to attract around 350 cyclists in addition to more than 2,500 spectators. Food trucks will be on hand during the day, and Xenia Adult Recreation and Services Center will provide a $4 pancake and sausage meal from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event is free to all spectators.

Police to hold community forums

The Bellbrook Police Department will hold community forums focusing on safety topics, as well as preparing citizens to handle various emergency situations.

Residents are being invited to attend the 7 p.m. forums, each led by a member of the police department, at Bellbrook Community Church, 3815 W. Franklin St. in Bellbrook.

The forums begin Wednesday with the topic Identity Theft and How to Avoid Scams. Other topics are Active Shooter Preparedness on July 15 and Computer Awareness and Safety Tips for Parents on Aug. 17.

BEAVERCREEK

City offering swing dance classes

The Beavercreek Parks, Recreation & Culture Department is offering swing dance classes at C. I. Beaver Hall, 3696 Highmont St.

Swing I is scheduled for 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays, June 17-July 1. Students will learn the basic steps, various turns and spins, and lead/follow techniques.

Swing II is a continuation of the Swing I class. The class is scheduled for 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays, July 8-July 22.

The resident fee is $45 per couple or $30 per person. The non-resident fee is $50 per couple or $35 per person. Pre-registration is required. For both classes, the resident fee is $70 and the non-resident fee is $80.
