Hamilton hospital shifts to electronic records

Tuesday's Business In brief

HEALTH CARE

At midnight Sunday, the switch was flipped from mostly paper medical records at the Fort Hamilton Hospital to now mostly electronic medical records, according to hospital officials.

The implementation of electronic medical records has been a yearlong process since it joined Kettering Health Network of Dayton a year ago.

Hospital spokeswoman Marielou Vierling said at 11:59 p.m. Saturday, a notification was sent to the emergency room, laboratory and urology departments to start the downtime procedure, which involved not entering anything new into existing systems.

At 3:51 a.m. Sunday, all were notified to start using the new Epic computer system to enter data.

Almost all adult hospitals serving Butler County now have electronic records, most recently McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital in Oxford. West Chester Hospital should be next. CHELSEY LEVINGSTON
