KAP for the Heart (KAPftH) will host their first annual Murder, Mystery & Mayhem for the Heart benefit tonight from 7:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. at the Dayton Women’s Club, 225 N. Ludlow Street, according to a release.

KAPftH is to help raise awareness for and promote a proactive approach to heart conditions to prevent sudden cardiac arrest in youth, read the release. The long-term goal of the foundation is to aid cardiac parents who need support for daily tasks and/or financial assistance for medications and proper treatment.

KAPftH was established in memory of 23-year-old Kieran Popp, who passed away in 2015 from sudden cardiac arrest. Popp’s family was unaware he had a fatal heart disease that could have been treated.

Jeanene Popp, executive director of KAPftH and Kieran’s mother, is part of a national coalition of parents who have lost a child or whose child survived sudden cardiac arrest.

“Kieran was a normal, seemingly healthy 23-year-old,” said Jeanene Popp. “I now know that this sort of thing is not rare, and we are working hard to raise awareness and institute cardiac screening programs for children in the local community.”
