Here’s what you need to know if you see a downed power line:
• Safety first Dayton Power & Light advises people to stay away from downed power lines and to NEVER tuoch one. Always assume it is live and report it online or call 877-4OUTAGE. Stay at least ten feet away from downed lines and keep children and pets away.
• If you are cleaning up after storm damage, do not remove tree limbs near downed lines until DP&L crews have repaired the damage, according to DP&L. Here are more tips.
• If you encounter an accident involving a utility pole: Never approach a vehicle that is touching power lines; instead call 911 immediately; and remain a safe distance away from the vehicle, keep the passengers in the vehicle calm and wait for emergency personnel to handle the situation.

• If your car is touching a pwoer line, stay put. Honk the horn and roll down your windown and yell for help or call 9-1-1 on your phone. If you must leave the vehicle, remove loose items of clothing and jump clear of the vehicle, alnding with both feet together, according to AEP Ohio.
