Hundreds of get well cards sent to Greenville child

Every morning, 11 year-old-Tyler Mullins family waits for the mailman.

During the last two months, people around the world – from Ohio to Germany to Australia — have showered Tyler with cards and letters.

“Tyler, the Buckeyes are thinking about you. Keep fighting and staying positive,” wrote Ohio State University’s assistant men’s basketball coach, Greg Paulus.

Tyler suffers from a rare disorder called polyostotic fibrous dysplasia. He has scar-like tissue where he should have normal bone – causing his hip and femur to bend and fracture.

An orthopedic surgeon at Dayton Children’s Hospital has been caring for Tyler since 2012. He has had three surgeries; the most recent in July. There is no cure. Tyler will “take it as it comes” for the rest of his life.

“He was a little upset about being back on crutches – it’s something he absolutely hates, having to start the school year on crutches,” said Tyler’s mother, Brandy Clay. “I wanted to do something to cheer him up.”

So she posted on Facebook – asking her cards for her son. In just two short months, Tyler has received more than 500.

“It helps brighten my day,” Tyler said. “I want to say thank you.”

Those interested in sending a card to Tyler can do so at 6770 Arcanum Bears-Mill Rd. in Greenville, Ohio.
