A jogger saw what appeared to be a body Monday afternoon in the Great Miami River, triggering a response from emergency crews, who in turn contacted the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.

The coroner’s office has not identified the man as of Tuesday morning. It is not known when the identity will be available.

Five Rivers MetroParks rangers said the body of a black man between 20 and 30 was found in the water about 10 feet off the shore of the river, which was swollen from recent rains.

The jogger called 911 shortly before 4:30 p.m. after he spotted the man’s body floating in the water near the dam off the Great Miami River Recreational Trail, near Shephard Road and Dayton Cincinnati Pike in Miami Twp. near Miamisburg.

“When we arrived it was a deceased person in the water,” Sgt. Eric Lane, a Five Rivers MetroParks ranger.

Lane said it is not known where the man entered the water, but that it appeared he had been in the river for some time.

The man did not have any identification, the sergeant said.

Lane also said the man did not immediately fit a description of any known missing persons reports.
