Preble County Public Health investigating possible

UPDATED @ 10:49 a.m. (Oct. 24):

Preble County Public Health is investigating a Jackson Twp. property that residents are saying is a health hazard.

“The property in question was brought to our attention through a nuisance complaint issued to our office on Oct. 12,” read a statement released by PCPH. “Our department is working with local officials and the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency to verify and remediate the issue if necessary.”

INITIAL REPORT:

Residents in one Preble County township are upset about property they say is an environmental and public health hazard.

At Monday night’s Jackson Twp. trustees meeting, they said the property owner has abandoned cars in a creek that floods.

One man said oil and other fluids from the vehicles get into the water supply.

“It’s not any consideration for the people who live in the village or in the immediate surrounding area,” Roy Kouts of Jackson Twp. said. “It’s a health concern. It’s a safety hazard. It’s a fire hazard.”

Residents said they filed a complaint with the health department and state leaders.
