Local governments face funding hurdle for U.S. Route 35 project

The latest $15.8 million U.S. Route 35 highway redesign may be getting closer to becoming a reality with the recent infusion of cash from the state transportation department this summer and the potential for more before the end of the year.

But before the superstreet project, aimed at reducing traffic congestion and vehicle crashes, can move forward, local government officials must decide how they are going to fund the $1.5 million required local match.

Greene County commissioners, Beavercreek City Council and Beavercreek Twp. trustees are at odds over whether the local match for the project should be evenly split three ways or if the county should pay a larger portion of the funds.

The three jurisdictions are meeting from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, to discuss local funding options.

The meeting will be at Beavercreek city hall, council chambers, 1368 Research Park Drive, Beavercreek.
