1 of 2 suspects stabbed in Darke County home invasion

More details are emerging from a stabbing incident that happened late Friday night in the 7700 block of Martin Road in Bradford.

The stabbing was the result of a home invasion and one of the alleged burglars was stabbed by the resident, according to a release from the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.

Benjamin J. Reed, 35, and Benjamin J. Hampshire, 23, both of Union City, Ohio, entered the home and assaulted the 33-year-old male occupant, according to the release.

The victim fought back and stabbed Reed in the chest and abdomen. Reed was taken by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital and was in critical condition.

Both the victim and Hampshire fled the home before deputies arrived. The victim was located a short time later and taken to Wayne Health Care where he was treated and released.

Suspect Hampshire was arrested and booked in to the Darke County Jail after he was located at Hunter Oak Apartments in Greenville.

The Darke County Sheriff’s Office will be presenting the case to the prosecutor’s office and additional charges are likely, according to the release.

A man is in critical condition after being stabbed during the overnight hours at a home in the 7400 block of Martin Road near Gettysburg in Darke County.

The victim suffered stab wounds in the chest and abdomen and was taken by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital.

Darke County deputies are investigating the circumstances surrounding the assault. There have been no arrests.
