West Milton man seriously hurt in crash involving trash truck

UPDATE @ 11:47 a.m.:

A 63-year-old West Milton man suffered serious injuries after striking the back of a trash truck before being hit by another vehicle driving on the other side of the road, deputies said.

Cecil Chaney was driving to work when hit struck the rear of the Rumpke truck on Ohio 55 near Kessler-Frederick Road around 7:50 a.m.

Chaney’s vehicle spun into oncoming traffic after hitting the truck and was hit by a Jeep.

Chaney was flown to Miami Valley Hospital for treatment of his injuries, deputies said.

The driver of the Jeep, Margaret Missimer, 56, of Troy, suffered minor injuries.

The trash truck driver, Steven Elifritz, 40, of Greenville was not hurt.

Deputies said the trash truck had proper lighting on the vehicle when the crash happened and they are still working to determine the circumstances that led to the incident.

UPDATE @ 9:50 a.m.:

An SUV clipped the back of a Rumpke trash truck, sending the SUV into the path of another vehicle on Ohio 55 near Ludlow Falls Wednesday morning, according to deputies.

The Honda SUV was traveling east on Ohio 55 near the intersection with Kessler-Frederick Road around 7:50 a.m. when the SUV crashed into the back of the trash truck, stopped to pick up trash, deputies said.

The SUV then crossed over the center line and crashed into a Jeep traveling west on Ohio 55.

The driver of the Honda SUV was taken by a CareFlight medical helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital, however their condition was not immediately available from investigators.

The driver of the Jeep was transported to an area hospital as a precaution and the driver of the trash truck was not injured.

The driver of the Honda SUV will likely be cited for the crash, deputies said.

Ohio 55 is blocked in both directions near the intersection with Kessler-Frederick Road in Miami County following a crash involving multiple vehicles.

Additional details were not available, but initial reports indicate a medical helicopter was requested to the scene.
