Coronavirus: Mercer, Wilson health put up tents for expected patient surges

UPDATE @ 9:56 p.m.: Specialized tents were put up Tuesday by Mercer Health in Coldwater and Wilson Health in Sidney in anticipation of a patient surge because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Mercer’s medical tent is located outside the emergency department of the Mercer Health Community Hospital in Coldwater.

The tent is part of a complex hospital surge plan, officials said Tuesday.

Wilson’s triage tent was erected outside the hospital’s emergency department as well for the same reason.

“The triage tent is an extension of our emergency department,” Linda Maurer, chief nursing officer, Wilson Heath, said Tuesday. “The site will be staff with a team of providers experienced in appropriate infection prevention protocols and securing samples for testing.

“We’re asking for the community’s understanding and compliance during this time,” Maurer said.
