Linda Stagles says NAMI has been around nationally since the 70’s and in Montgomery County since 1988.
“We service families and individuals with mental health crisis and conditions. We provide course and resources. We go out into the community. We do a lot of presentations at colleges and mental health awareness,” she said.
Stagles also stressed that having mental health issues is nothing to be ashamed of.
“We have many, many functioning people in all sorts of positions and professions in this community with mental health diagnosis that are in recovery, and they’re managing the illnesses well,” she said. “So the key here is untreated mental illness.”

NAMI is funded through a state grant and is currently pushing a local initiative called “Awake Dayton” to spread the word that they’re here to help.
