Voters strongly supported a renewal levy for the Miamisburg City School District, and did the same for two longtime educators in electing them to school board seats.
A five-year, 8.3-mill substitute levy gained 3,627 in favor and 2,013 against, according to final but unofficial results from the Montgomery County Board of Elections.
Voter approval of the measure would not increase taxes, school district officials said, and would annually generate about $7.2 million.
“I’m very happy that the renewal levy passed with such a large number of yes votes,” said school board President Dale Toadvine.
Toadvine was elected to a third term Tuesday night by finishing with 3,553 votes and will be joined on the board by former football coach Tim Lewis, who finished with 3,193. Tracy Atchison finished third in the race for two seats with 2,496 votes, returns show.
“I think the people of Miamisburg value education and realize that there’s no additional taxes and people are proud of our school system for the most part,” Toadvine said.
“It’s like getting an allowance. It let’s you pay the bills,” he said of the renewal levy passage. “So we’re going to maintain a quality education in the district.”
The money generated by the levy is nearly 13 percent of the overall operating revenues and 12.4 percent the overall operating budget for the district, which also includes most of Miami Twp. and parts of German Twp.
Passage of the levy would continue to cost the owner of a home valued at $100,000 about $290.50 a year, Miamisburg Treasurer Tina Hageman said.
