Now, the dispatcher who helped Carlos and Juliana Macedo deliver Daniel safely, talks about the call she’ll never forget.

Jovita Preston has been a 911 dispatcher in Montgomery County for almost three years.

“Mom did all the hard work,” she said.

Carlos Macedo was on Interstate 75 when his wife, Juliana, who was in labor, said the baby was coming now on the side of the highway.

“While he’s trying to pull over his wife, she screams and then he get out of the car, he leaves an open line for a minute the baby is born,” Preston said. “I was mostly hearing him trying to figure out what to do until he could pick the phone back up.

“If you stay calm the caller almost always is calm as well. As long as I was calm he stayed as calm as possible,” she said.

Carlos Macedo said he was thankful for the help.

Preston said it takes a little time to decompress after a call like Daniel’s birth. But she said it left her feeling happy that mother, father and baby were safe because of her help.

“It felt good. It felt good to at least help him make sure him and his wife and baby were safe and that she delivered safely as well,” Preston said.
