EARLIER REPORT:

The Montgomery County Solid Waste District has announced its annual tire buyback event.

The seventh annual event is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the solid waste transfer facility, 1001 Encrete Drive in Moraine.

This event is open to Montgomery County residents only, who must bring proof of residency to participate.

Residents will receive $2 for every tire, with a maximum of 10 tires. It’s illegal to haul more than 10 tires at a time without an approved state registration. Truck, farm implement or other over-sized tires will not be accepted.

“We hope that this year’s tire buyback will lead to further reduction in illegal scrap tire hauling and dumping, help improve the quality of life in our local communities, and positively impact the environment,” Montgomery County Commissioner Judy Dodge said.

This program is a collaborative effort between Montgomery County Environmental Services, the city of Moraine, the city of Dayton, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and Public Health Dayton & Montgomery County.

Last year, more than 15,000 tires were delivered during the event. This year is the seventh year for the event and Montgomery County anticipates they’ll pass the 100,000th tire received through the program.
