Goodwill Easter Seals Miami Valley, Montgomery County Environmental Services, Monco Enterprises and US Ecology will sponsor “Keep Clay Clean” in Clay Twp. The event will be held from 9 a.,m.-noon Saturday at Clay Twp. Offices 8207 Arlington Road.

Acceptable donations include electronics, clothing, furniture, document shredding for residents only, tires from residents only, and hazardous waste disposal from residents only

AAA giving away booster seats

AAA will give away free booster seats from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. on Saturday at AAA downtown Dayton, 825 S. Ludlow St.

Under Ohio law, every child under 8 years old must ride in a booster seat or other appropriate child safety seat unless the child is 4-foot-9 or taller. AAA and SAFE KIDS Greater Dayton will have Child Passenger Seat Safety Technicians on hand for a free booster seat giveaway.

To receive a booster, children must be at least 4 years old, weigh 40-100 pounds, and be under 4-foot-9. Vehicles must have working strap/lap belts. Parent must be WIC eligible and have child present to receive seat. Limit one booster per child.

3 new administrators to start in city schools

Vandalia-Butler School District has hired three new administrators for the upcoming school year.

They are:

• Tom Luebbe, the new principal for Butler High School;

• Jennifer Strehle, the new assistant principal for Morton Middle School; and

• Jordan Shumaker, the new athletic director for Butler High School.

Literary circle bringing authors in out of the heat

The Dunbar Literary Circle presents the Dog Days of Summer from 2 to 4 p.m., Aug. 14, at the Paul Laurence Dunbar House Historic Site, located at 219 N. Paul Laurence Dunbar St. Attendees should enter through the Visitor Center entrance on Edison Street.

Visitors can read their own passage by a favored poet or writer or simply listen and enjoy in the air conditioned facility.

The Dunbar Literary Circle meets on the second Sunday of the month.

Free transit application workshop planned

A free workshop on completing an application for funding for transit projects will be held from from 9-11 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 23, as part of the Quarterly Regional Transportation Coordination Council meeting.

The Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission (MVRPC) is accepting requests for applications for possible funding from federal transportation money.

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Section 5310 program, also known as Enhanced Mobility for Seniors and People with Disabilities, provides partial funding to transit agencies, governmental authorities, private providers of public transportation and duly-formed private, non-profit organizations for projects that improve accessibility.

The meeting and workshop will take place at Goodwill Easter Seals Headquarters, Eichelberger Conference Center, 660 South Main St.

This is a mandatory meeting for any organization planning to request funding.

The deadline to submit a funding application for Section 5310 funds is Wednesday, Aug. 24 by 4 p.m.

CENTERVILLE

City updates street map

The Centerville Planning Department has updated the city street map.

With an improved design, the map features new roads and developments within the city. The previous map — designed in 2009 — was awarded Best of Show at the Ohio GIS Conference Map Gallery.

The map is available on the city’s website at www.centervilleohiogov. Paper copies are available for $2 each at the Centerville Municipal Offices, 100 W. Spring Valley Road.
