NEW VIDEO: Former Tipp City mayor explains to police how he shot himself

New police body cam video shows the moments after Patrick Hale, former Tipp City mayor, shot himself in the groin on April 10 and was arrested on a marijuana possession charge.

Police released the video, which accompanies this report, on Monday.

In the video, Hale is heard telling police officers he shot himself, that the gun discharged when he drove over a bump in the road. Police found an unspent round in the work van Hale was driving.

They also found suspect marijuana in the vehicle, drug paraphernalia and more than $3,300 in cash on Hale.

Hale, 57, was treated at a hospital.

According to court record, Hale has paid a $301 fine for two misdemeanors on which he was charged. The criminal case against him is closed, according to the clerk of courts.
