ODOT’s new online technology tells motorists current highway speeds

CLAYTON – The Ohio Department of Transportation, District 7, Friday, March 26, has announced its latest online technology available to motorists.

You can access it at www.buckeyetraffic.org

This Web site and the ITS system are designed to provide drivers with up to the minute traffic information before they get behind the wheel.

Motorists can access online speed sensors, dynamic message boards and traffic cameras by a simple click of the mouse.

The additions to the Buckeye Traffic Web site allow Dayton area motorists access to current speeds of traffic on I-75, I-70, I-675, U.S. 35, Ohio 4 and Ohio 49.

An online speed ledger shows that green areas are traveling 50 m.p.h. or faster, yellow areas are traveling 26 to 49 m.p.h. and red areas are traveling 25 m.p.h. or slower. Motorists can also see emergency detours or estimated destination arrival times by viewing dynamic message signs online.

“This technology allows drivers to see any traffic concerns before they get behind the wheel,” said Rex Dickey, District 7 deputy director.

Once motorists are on the road they will still have access to up to the minute traffic reports by tuning in to ODOT’s Highway Advisory radio stations — 1630 or 1700 — on the AM dial.

“District 7 is the first in Ohio to provide all of these tools to motorists, and we are excited to continue our commitment to the traveling public through state of the art technology,” Dickey said.

The latest traffic information is available 24 hours a day at www.buckeyetraffic.org .
