Officers from across area gather to honor Montgomery County deputy who died suddenly

Officers from across the Miami Valley gathered today to pay their respects to Montgomery County Sheriff Deputy Darren Harvey.

Harvey, 46, died suddenly last week. The funeral was held Tuesday morning in Vandalia.

“Deputy Harvey was highly decorated and dedicated Deputy serving the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office for 19-years,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

Harvey started his career with the sheriff’s office in 1999 as a court officer and was promoted to Deputy Sheriff in 2000.

In 2007, Harvey became a K-9 handler and served with partners Basko and Axel.

Harvey also was a sheriff’s office K-9 Trainer, a Trainer for the National Association of Professional Canine Handlers and a State of Ohio Canine Evaluator.
