It’s official: Donald Trump wins Montgomery County

Donald Trump's victory in Montgomery County became official Wednesday, making him the first Republican to carry the county since 1988.

Trump edged out Clinton by 1,893 votes in the results certified by the Montgomery County Board of Elections. Unofficial numbers showed Trump with a 3,105 vote lead. Trump won 123,909 county voters to Clinton’s 122,016 votes.

Trump is the first Republican since then-Vice President George H.W. Bush in 1988 to win Montgomery County.

In another tight race, this for Montgomery County commissioner, incumbent Debbie Lieberman expanded her lead in winning re-election over former Dayton Mayor Gary Leitzell by 1,349 votes.

Turnout this year among registered voters hit 70.3 percent. There will be no recounts of the results, elections officials said. A regular audit of the results is now underway.

Elections officials said the 2016 elections process was “smooth and seamless” and thanked the voters for participating in the presidential election.

“When you walk into a ballot booth, everybody’s equal, everybody’s the same,” said Board of Elections Member Tom Young.
