FAIRFIELD — One Way Farm is again looking for some dudes to look like ladies.
Barb Condo, founder of the home for abused and neglected children, is leading the charge for the second annual “Glamour in the Night” pageant on April 24 at Tori’s Station.
“The biggest thing is for people to become involved,” Condo said. “All it takes is to put on a wig and a dress.”
Condo said the first year went “fabulous” and she is looking for 15 more contestants to compete for the title Miss Universal title. Nine have already signed up.
Sam Minnielli, the inaugural pageant winner, dreaded parading as a woman in front of a capacity crowd, but said “I never laughed so hard in my life.”
“We support the One Way Farm in anyway we can,” he said. “While certainly this was an unorthodox way, it worked.”
The order of finish is determined how much money each contestant raises. One dollar equals one vote. Between votes, sponsors and auction items, last year’s event raised more than $25,000.
Condo said sponsors are also needed, “which is a good way to get out of putting on a wig and a dress.”
Rob Heglin, Frank’s Glass marketing and sales representative, said it’s hard to say “no” to a cause like One Way Farm.
He said it’s heartbreaking to hear the stories of abuse and neglect the kids have suffered. One Way Farm has served more than 8,500 kids since it opened in 1976.
“With what they went through, I’ll throw a dress on any day,” said Heglin, who’ll be known as Ms. Crystal Clear. “It’s not something everyone would want to do, but it’s a good cause, it’s an amazing cause.”
