Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office reports OVI checkpoint results

UPDATE @ 1:15 a.m. (July 4):

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office has announced the results of the two OVI checkpoints conducted Wednesday night in Jefferson Twp.

During the checkpoint in the 4300 block of Germantown Pike, more than 170 vehicles passed through resulting in two citations for driving under suspension and two citations for inadequate child safety restraints.

During the checkpoint in the 5400 block of West Third Street, 190 cars passed the checkpoint with two citations for driving under suspension.

Extra patrols accompanying these checkpoints resulted in one OVI arrest and four driving under suspension citations, two seatbelt citations, one speed citation and three miscellaneous traffic violation citations.

The checkpoints were operated by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the Montgomery County Combined Agency OVI Task Force.

INITIAL REPORT (July 3):

Two OVI checkpoints will be conducted tonight in the Jefferson Twp. area, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

The sobriety checkpoints will be conducted from 7 to 11:30 p.m. in the 4300 block of Germantown Pike and the 5400 block of West Third Street.

State law requires law enforcement to announce checkpoint times and locations in advance.

More than 11 arrests for impaired driving have been made at or near the checkpoint locations so far in 2019, according to the sheriff’s office. In 2018, 14 arrests were made in the proposed locations, eight of which came after traffic crashes.

The checkpoint will be operated by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the Montgomery County Combined Agency OVI Task Force.
