Ohio State Highway Patrol announces results of Shelby County OVI checkpoints

The Ohio State Highway Patrol has announced the results of its OVI checkpoints in Shelby County.

At the checkpoint on Wapakoneta Avenue, a total of 366 vehicles were checked, with no arrests made for OVI.

At the state Route 47 checkpoint, 253 vehicles were checked, also with no arrests made for OVI.

In addition to these checkpoints, saturation patrols in the area made 18 traffic stops, with citations issued for several traffic violations, none for impaired driving.

In a release, Lieutenant Joseph Gebhart said, “At the end of the evening, our ultimate goal is just to educate motorists to do the right thing and make other arrangements if they are going to consume alcohol. There is no place for impaired driving on our roadways and the public supports the efforts of these men and women out here tonight making their community safer.”

The Ohio State Highway Patrol will be conducting two OVI checkpoints tonight.

The time and location of the checkpoints will be:

  • 6 to 8 p.m. on Wapakoneta Avenue in Sidney
  • 9 to 11 p.m. on state Route 47

The checkpoints, along with saturation patrols, are to combat alcohol related injury and fatal crashes.
