Owner: Thieves aimed to ‘destroy’ during Riverside salon break-in

A Riverside salon broken into overnight will remain open for clients through the day, according to the business’ owner.

LOCAL WEATHER: Air Pollution Advisory through Saturday; heat index over 100 this weekend

Officers were dispatched to the Airway Whispering Palms Salon at 178 Woodman Drive around 8 a.m. after finding the front glass door shattered. Employees and police found the front desk and back room in disarray with several items missing.

Owner Mary Lu Politowski said this isn’t the first time her salon, in business for over 50 years, has been targeted by thieves.

“We’ve been broken into two other times, but the last one was over 20 years ago,” Pilitowski said. “This is a shame someone would do this.”

“They just didn’t come in to steal, but also to destroy,” Politowski said.

Despite the crime, Politowski said the salon will remain open today and clients are coming in to help clean up.

“It’s a mess and it will take all day to clean up. But we are not going to let it stop us and we are working to day,” Politowski said.

Police released surveillance photos that captured one person leaving the scene shortly after the break-in.
