At 16, Norman won her first national title in 2014 at the USA Triathlon Paratriathlon National Championships, and in 2016, she became the first paratriathlete in history to win a gold medal at the Paralympic Games in Rio De Janeiro.
Since starting her International Triathlon Union racing career in 2014, Norman has won a total of 12 podium and seven gold medal wins at the annual ITC Paratriathlon World Championships.
“Not only is Norman an inspiration to parathletes, she is an inspiration to all athletes, proving there are no limitations to what you can accomplish,” said Brandon Hough, Air Force Marathon race director.
Norman was also the first female amputee to qualify for a high school state track meet and finish on the podium.
Recently, Norman competed at the Collegiate Club National Championships triathlon on April 6 in Tempe, Arizona. As the only amputee in the race going twice the distance of her usual triathlons, she placed 26th out of 477 women collegiate athletes who competed.
Norman is currently in the nursing program at Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio. She has participated in cross country and indoor and outdoor track for the Cedarville Yellow Jackets.
