UPDATE @ 11:03 a.m.
A semitrailer hauling 22,000 pounds of steel coil caused extensive damage to the road shoulder when it overturned on Interstate 675 south ramp to Interstate 75 south in Miami Twp. on Tuesday, according to police.
“At some point during the curve, he (the driver) lost control,” said Miami Township Police Officer Pat McCoy. “The coil steel snapped from its chains, came off the trailer as the semi was turning over on its side. The truck slid. The coil came off. It went about 80 feet away from the truck.”
Police believe speed is a factor.
The driver was taken to Kettering Medical Center for injuries that were not life threatening.
“Keep your eyes open,” McCoy said. “Be very aware of what’s going on in front of you and slow down.”
