Black ice blamed for crash involving Miamisburg police cruiser

UPDATE @ 9:10 a.m.: 

A driver who lost control after hitting a patch of black ice was blamed for causing a crash involving a Miamisburg police cruiser Friday morning, according to police.

The crash was reported on state Route 725 at Prestige Plaza Drive in Miamisburg around 8 a.m. Friday.

The driver of an SUV was attempting to turn onto state Route 725 from Mall Woods Drive when the driver lost control after hitting a patch of black ice, causing the SUV to spin-out, police said.

The SUV went over a median curb and slammed into the driver’s side door of a Miamisburg police cruiser.

Neither driver was injured in the crash, however the Miamisburg officer was transported to an area hospital for evaluation, investigators said.

The driver of the SUV was cited for failure to control.

FIRST REPORT

The left-hand lanes are closed in both directions after a reported crash involving a police cruiser on Miamisburg-Centerville Road just east of I-75 around Prestige Plaza Drive, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation’s OHGO map.

Injuries were reported in the crash.
