Police find gun connected to area homicide

Police have found a gun in a ditch that may be connected to last week’s shooting death of Marcus Holland.

The weapon was located near Germantown and Frytown roads just before noon today. It’s the same area where detectives located an abandoned SUV last week.

The vehicle is believed to be the one seen fleeing the shooting scene April 10 on South Gettysburg Avenue.

Sgt. Rick Blommel said the loaded handgun found in a ditch has similar characteristics to the one that was used to kill Holland.

“We’re not saying this is that particular weapon. That’s a while away from being determined,” he said.

Police will submit the weapon to the crime lab to see if they can get fingerprints or DNA evidence off of it.

“We think we are on the right track,” Blommel said about the search for a suspect in the case. Last week he said detectives had spoken to the owner of the light-colored SUV after it was found abandoned, but had not identified a suspect.

Holland, 28, was walking along the west side of Gettysburg Wednesday afternoon on his way to a meeting with his parole officer at the Adult Parole Authority district office nearby. He was shot and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Several Adult Parole Authority employees rendered aid to him at the scene.

In a statement Friday afternoon Anthony Caldwell, communications coordinator for the union that represents those social services employees said, “SEIU District 1199 members attempted to administer life-saving procedures and helped secure the area until police could arrive.”

Witnesses described a light-colored SUV as the possible suspect vehicle.
